Nestled in the heart of North Central PA, Lycoming County is perfectly situated to offer the charm and affordability of rural living with easy access to all that cities like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York, Baltimore, and Harrisburg have to offer.

Larger than the state of Rhode Island, Lycoming County boasts the largest land area of any county in PA. If you like the outdoors, Lycoming County has everything you could ask for. Whether it be camping, and hiking or fishing and hunting you will find it here. We also have a 62 mile Rail Trail which winds through Lycoming County and into Tioga County. It’s the perfect bike path for “leaf-peeping” in the fall or any time you want to see the beauty of the Pennsylvania outdoors.

If athletics are more your style, we’ve got you covered! Williamsport is the home to Little League Baseball hosting more than 40,000 guests from all over the world yearly for the Little League World Series. Penn College and Lycoming College have a wide range of competitive athletic teams including baseball, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, field hockey, football and more. Speaking of football, you are in Nittany Lion Country! A short one hour drive will get you to Big 10 Football at legendary Beaver Stadium, not to mention Penn State’s outstanding Wrestling program, men’s and women’s Basketball and much more.

Williamsport has seen a revitalization of Art and Culture in recent years. A point of pride is our Community Arts Center. Originally built in 1928 and named the Capitol Theater, the building enjoyed a decade of movies and live theater. Hit by the Great Depression and a flood, the theater fell into disrepair. In 1989, Penn College, First Community Foundation Partnership and the City of Williamsport, along with private donors raised over $13 million to restore the theater to its former glory. By 1993 the newly refurbished Community Arts Center opened its doors to world class music, theater and entertainment. Since then, the CAC has been host to such luminaries as Aretha Franklin, Yo-Yo Ma, Jerry Seinfeld, Ringo Starr and Willie Nelson. The CAC also houses the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, the Uptown Music Collective, local dance schools and Lycoming College Music Department. Make sure the CAC is on your list of places to visit, you will not be disappointed!

Performance Art is just the tip of the iceberg in Lycoming County’s art scene. Downtown Williamsport’s shops sell wares made by local artisans including pottery, jewelry and fine art. Throughout the county are a number of goldsmiths ready to make that one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry for you. Williamsport, Wellsboro, Eagles Mere, and State College all host annual arts festivals where you will certainly find that gift or décor that is truly unique.

Whether it’s professional sports, art, fine dining or travel, Lycoming County is only a 2–3-hour drive from the major metropolitan areas of Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York, and Baltimore. Perfect travel distance for an overnight or weekend getaway!

Lycoming County is ideal for raising a family. The surrounding areas of South Williamsport, Montoursville, Loyalsock, Hughesville, and Muncy are all quaint small towns with excellent school districts. Whether you choose to live in town or on the outskirts, you’re seldom more than a 10-15 minute drive to the store, school or work. Housing is very affordable, and the crime rate is low (B+ rating on www.crimegrade.org) with most crime occurring in small pockets of the county.
